Clannad follows the story of Tomoya Okazaki, a Highschool student living in a fictional Japanese town, struggling to find his place in this world. The plot branches of as he encounters and starts building a relationship with different people during his last school year. The decisions made in the game can lead to many different endings, but there are roughly 5 main story-routes and around 8 side routes, with one additional main route unlocked somewhere during the game-play.
